Giant calender reconditioned and reconfigured in record time in spite of the lockdown
On July 23, a fully reconditioned calender for the production of technical PVC films left the Rodolfo Comerio premises in Solbiate Olona (Varese, Italy) to reach the Tekni-Plex Gallazzi factory in Gallarate (Varese). The operation of the calender had been compromised by a fire that damaged the company's facilities at the end of March. The machine, along with two other calenders, had in fact been almost completely destroyed, forcing the company to shut down production.
Despite the difficulties associated with the lockdown, the close collaboration between the two companies allowed Rodolfo Comerio to recondition the machine and Tekni-Plex Gallazzi to renovate its production site in record time. The calendering line was also reconfigured by the manufacturer from Solbiate Olona with the addition of the latest technological innovations without affecting setup costs and times, as a result improving its production and quality performance.
The imposing calendering line is 5 meters high, 4 meters wide and over 5 meters long, and weighs 80 tons. Equipped with 5 cylinders with a diameter of 610 mm, it produces 2.5-meter wide PVC sheets and was transported already pre-assembled to Tekni-Plex Gallazzi on a special truck for oversize loads.
The long-standing cooperation between the two companies (in the picture, Carlo Comerio, on the left, CEO of Rodolfo Comerio, and Antonino Crisafulli, CEO of Tekni-Plex Gallazzi) made sure that, to recondition and reconfigure the calender, Tekni-Plex Gallazzi had no doubts about the choice of Rodolfo Comerio, which, on its part, ensured its full availability for a rapid recommissioning of the machine at top performance levels. Rodolfo Comerio management and operators teamed up in the effort to achieve this goal and contribute to the resumption of the activities of one of the main manufacturing companies in the province of Varese.
