Dual layer of PP with EVOH core in 48 cavities

Manufacturer of moulds for thermoplastics and assembly machines, Gefit recently developed a 48-cavity mould for coffee capsules demonstrates.
Coffee capsules have conquered the taste and the favour of the European consumers, so that their use becomes every day higher, according to the frantic pace that modern market requires. They may have different shapes and dimensions, and the search of alternative materials for their production has already started. Therefore, as nobody can do without a good coffee, to be prepared in a few seconds, the major producers are constantly working to present new fragrances but also innovative and attractive packaging solutions.
This mould features a co-injection system of
polypropylene and EVOH, the latter being a material able to provide the
necessary barrier effect to the product, thus avoiding the use of aluminium. The
capsule obtained at the end of the injection process is therefore made of two
PP layers, inner and outer, with a core in EVOH. The main features of the
mould, designed for bimaterial injection, have to be found in the high
performances and in the excellent cycle time achieved during the mould start-up
phase.
