Bioplastics Council announces 2010 activities
The Bioplastics Council (a special interest group of SPI) has just announced its agenda for this year. The current global market for bioplastics (that is biodegradable and biobased plastics) is estimated to be almost 260,000 tons and should reach almost 550,000 tons in 2012, representing an almost 18% annual growth rate. In order to promote the development of bioplastics as an integral part of the plastics industry, the Council has set forth an agenda including the following 2010 key objectives: continue to build the Council’s relationship with the US Department of Agriculture’s BioPreferred Program; continue industry and stakeholder educational efforts pertaining to bioplastics with a new emphasis on clarifying “bioplastics-related” marketing claims; create synergy and exploring new partenships; increase the visibility of the Council by providing educational programming on the occasion of trade shows and conferences and planning a media campaign.
