A new control unit for Sinamics G120

The Drive Technologies division of Siemens has launched a new CU250S-2 control unit series with positioning capabilities, for use within Sinamics G120 drive system, commonly employed in many plastics and rubber processing machines. Compared to its predecessors, this control unit supports vector control with encoder feedback. The safety functions are already integrated into the standard unit. The CU250S-2 completes the Sinamics G120 range and replaces the CU240S control unit with encoder interface. It now also supports single-axis applications with induction motors, general positioning tasks and applications that require multiple I/Os. In addition, all the CU250S-2 series control units come by default with the STO (Safe Torque Off), SBC (Safe Brake Control) and SS1 (Safe Stop 1) safety functions. This makes it possible to easily implement applications with basic safety requirements. Extended safety functions can be activated through an optional software license.
In line with the modular design of the Sinamics G120 system, the control units can be freely combined with all the main power modules and support all the applications previously managed by Sinamics G120, with and without encoder evaluation. These include mixer, extruder, pump, fan and compressor applications, as well as applications for industries such as automotive, textile, printing, chemical and material handling.
