"Fantastic 6": comic on recycling

"RicicloTVB" (Recycling, I¤U) is a project in the schools ideated and promoted by Conai, the Italian National Packaging Consortium, to spread the culture of recycling packaging wastes and develop an environmental conscience. It is sponsored by the Italian Ministries of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea and of Education, Universities and Research.
This original learning experience is addressed to students and teachers in middle schools and the first two years of high school throughout Italy, engaging the young people in a journey of discovery of the secrets of packaging and teaching them how, if properly recycled, these materials can be given a new life as various everyday objects.
Conai has developed an interactive teaching method that allows the kids to take charge of the learning experience and become true "ambassadors of recycling". Accompanied by teachers, the students learn what happens downstream of source-separated waste collection, get to see and study packaging recycling processes, or reinvent themselves as researchers to discover how the various wastes are handled within the walls of their homes or in the public spaces of their city.
In keeping with the principle of encouraging proper use of new technologies by the youngest among us and ensuring maximum accessibility by teachers, the full project is available over the internet via the website www.riciclotvb.it
The project also includes a contest for the school year 2013-2014 titled "Fantastic 6", where the young participants are asked to think up and draw a comic dedicated to recycling that touches on the themes of the 6 packaging materials managed by Conai via source-separated waste collection: steel, aluminium, paper, wood, plastic and glass. The kids' imagination will be given free rein to invent a story, create characters, imagine the action, draw and colour the scenes and bring to life a new and original comic book dedicated to recycling. The classes will have until Friday, 28 March 2014 to submit their work. A jury composed of representatives of Conai and the two ministries with one teacher will meet to choose the winner by 30 April 2014.
