Repsol invests over 18 million euros to produce polymeric polyols in Tarragona

Repsol invests over 18 million euros in the polyol plant located at its industrial complex in Tarragona (Spain), to expand the Alcupol range of high-quality polymeric polyols. This investment shows the clear commitment of the multi-energy company to meet its customers’ needs in the flexible polyurethane industry, especially for comfort and automotive applications, such as mattresses, furniture, and car seats. Furthermore, the investment will allow for an extended range of high added value products while maximizing production capacity.

Most of the investment will go to installing a second reactor in the production line of the current polymeric polyols plant. Work began last April, and commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. In addition, this plant will use a new technology developed by scientists at the Repsol Technology Lab. As a result, the process is optimized, and the performance as well as the hardness and tensile properties of the foams are improved, meeting the requirements of premium applications.

This investment in the Tarragona petrochemical complex reaffirms Repsol’s intention to increase the differentiation and competitiveness of its product portfolio by manufacturing a product considered to be high-quality and specialized.
