Market surveillance

The number of machines - including those for plastics and rubber processing - imported to Europe from extra-European countries is growing steadily and, unfortunately, so is the risk of workplace accidents. There are two reasons for this: first of all, too many machines, manufactured by companies insufficiently familiar with European standards and directives, carry the "CE" mark yet fail to comply with even minimum safety measures. Secondly, market surveillance is very weak throughout Europe.
This subject will be discussed in Brussels on Thursday, November 24, during a seminar co-organized by the European Commission (see http://machinery-surveillance.eu/). There will be many speakers, including a representative of Assocomaplast who will talk about the Italian association's experience with the Customs Authority.
