Markus Kamieth, CEO of Basf, has joined Cefic’s Board of Directors and will take over as President from 1 January 2026. From the same date, Kamieth will also become President of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). He will succeed Ilham Kadri, the current CEO of Syensqo.

“Ilham Kadri’s leadership has been transformative. She has united the chemical industry, ensured our voice was heard and strengthened our position as a strategic sector in Europe. She helped put competitiveness back at the heart of the European political debate, acting as a respected voice at the highest levels of the EU institutions. We are grateful for her vision, determination and commitment to Europe’s industrial future,” said Marco Mensink, Director General of Cefic.

“We are very proud and grateful that a leading figure from our sector has agreed to take on the role of Cefic President. We look forward to working closely with Markus Kamieth, his team and Cefic’s Board of Directors during one of the most challenging periods the European chemical industry has ever faced,” Mensink added.

From 1 January 2026, Ilham Kadri will hand over the role of CEO of Syensqo to Mike Radossich. Markus Kamieth has been CEO of Basf since the end of April 2024, when he took over from Martin Brudermüller.
