CO2 for a sustainable economy
Carbon dioxide emissions are largely responsible for the greenhouse effect and thus for climate change. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions is therefore at the very top of the international political agenda. Trials are being run in parallel on underground sequestration of carbon dioxide from power stations, which would remove it from the atmosphere. At first glance, the wish to use energy-poor, inert carbon dioxide molecules might appear paradoxical. Considerable research and development efforts in recent years have led to new and innovative carbon dioxide recycling technologies and technologies allowing carbon dioxide to be used in the production of chemicals and plastics.
This and other topics will be dealt with at the "CO2 Feedstock for Chemistry and Polymers Conference" organised by Nova Institut, which will be held in Essen (Germany) on October 10-11 2012. The event, seeking to develop a vision for a sustainable economy, will look at a wide range of uses of carbon dioxide.
