Angry converters
This is the mood of the members of EuPC (European Plastics Converters), as reported by their director Alexandre Dangis on 1 June during the association's annual assembly.
Precisely when the market seemed to be opening to favourable prospects, the continuing increase in raw material costs and the growing number of plastics suppliers resorting to claims of "force majeure" to explain their inability to guarantee punctual supplies to processors risk slowing recovery throughout the industry.
In response, EuPC has set up a call center dedicated to converters so they can report difficulties and failed supplies of materials. Furthermore the association proposes to organize a competition for European excellence in the supply of polymers, where the assessment criteria will be precisely the refusal to resort to claims of force majeure. Lastly, the association hopes for the adoption of a European standard that will serve as a yardstick for the evaluation of these statements in order to preserve the competitiveness of European companies in the industry and prevent the delocalization of production outside of Europe.
