Efficiency and sustainability: the two key words that guide RadiciGroup in the mobility of the future
Innovative and safe solutions thanks to light engineering polymers, recycled or even from bio sources
The ecological transition is at the centre of RadiciGroup's strategy. The High Performance Polymers business area aims to develop innovative materials for the automotive sector, in particular for e-mobility, an accelerating market with enormous growth prospects.
The Group is mainly focused on three pillars: materials with high characteristics for the replacement of metals and the lightening of components, even more necessary in electric vehicles; mechanical recycling from pre- and post-consumer sources for a circular economy that enhances resources; biobased raw materials that avoid the use of raw materials of fossil origin.
In the e-mobility sector, one of the most interesting fields of application of RadiciGroup engineering polymers concerns the thermal management of the entire vehicle: from the electric motor to the battery system, from the power equipment to the passenger compartment itself. This is a more complex technological challenge than the thermal management of an internal combustion engine vehicle, whose energy inefficiency allows for a lot of energy to be available for temperature regulation.
In the case of the electric car, however, it is a question of recovering energy without compromising the mileage range of the engine. It is a more complex system, made up of approximately double the components compared to the thermal management of a traditional car. Very important among these components are the ducts for coolant liquids, which must pass specific tests, such as resistance to contact with road salts.
For the creation of these ducts, among other things, materials of partially biological origin are particularly suitable, such as polyamide 6.10: biobased products that can also be used for many other components of the electric car, in different segments: powertrain, interiors, chassis and more.
Thanks to long experience in the production of materials for the electrical and electronics sector, RadiciGroup has proven to be a trusted partner for car manufacturers dealing with growing volumes in the field of e-mobility, where further great growth is expected in the coming years.
