Import of machinery in Russia

The statistical data referred to January-October 2009 confirmed that Russian imports of plastics and rubber machinery and moulds suffered a sharp slowdown. According to the latest available statistics, the first two supplying countries, Germany and Italy, did mark a drop of more than 50% of sales of machinery and moulds in Russia, in January-October 2009 compared to the same period of 2008. The collapse of the orders is also reflected on the Italian and German participation in Interplastica, which will open its doors tomorrow. Nevertheless, the potential of the Russian market continues to be interesting and it is conceivable that the economic recovery will coincide with the growth of purchases of new machinery.
