Increasing plastics recycling
The European Plastics Recyclers trade association (EuPR) has released a paper entitled "How to increase plastics recycling", which offers an analysis of the plastics industry profile, paying special attention to plastics recycling in order to provide an overview of the current post-consumer plastics recovery operation, underlining the benefits of mechanical recycle. The paper, presented as a rulebook, underlines the 10 fundamental actions to increase the recycle of post-consumer plastics waste and to move towards a recycling society. It aims at better exploiting the possibilities of European recycling plants in order to increase the amount of plastics waste to be recovered (51%) out of 25 plastics waste million tons, produced annually in Europe. The paper inspects the main aspects of plastics waste public policy like communication and promotional devices to support the socalled culture of "recycle-and-reuse", but also the close monitoring of the national collection systems and better harmonization of the different European systems. Moreover the following topics cannot be omitted: a favourable fiscal system for the European recycling industry and effective solutions offered to plastics recyclers to comply with REACH regulation.
