From New Delhi to Ahmedabad

Although they still seem to be only rumours awaiting official confirmation, the suggestion is that Plastindia Foundation, the company that organises the Plastindia fair, intends to move the next edition of the event, scheduled to run from 5 to 10 February 2015, from the Pragati Maidan exhibition centre in New Delhi, where it has been held for the past eight times, to the new Ahmedabad fairgrounds in the state of Gujarat.

Given the imminence of the event - for international events like trade fairs anything less than five months is a really tight timeframe - this would create quite a few logistical problems for exhibitors and visitors who, most likely, have already planned a stay in the Indian capital. This news is, in fact, rather surprising, as this option had already been aired in 2013, but was discarded because the new fairgrounds were not yet ready and the timing appeared to be too tight. At present nothing more concrete is known and further developments are expected.

The last time the event was held, in 2012, it was attended by approximately 1,600 exhibitors, occupied a surface area of 55,000 square metres and attracted nearly 150,000 visitors. The plastics industry in India comprises roughly 25,000 companies that employ around 3 million people.
