Restaurant floating on bottles

A new dining room, staying afloat on 1,675 two-litre post-consumer plastic bottles, has been recently opened at the False Creek Yacht Club in Vancouver (Canada). All materials used for the furniture are renewable and recycled. The designers of the so called "plastic dining room" aim at awakening customers to the issue of sea litter (two big islands of plastic waste are floating in the middle of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as we reported on our website on April 2, 2010), which is seriously endangering the entire marine ecosystem. Chefs chose to offer a sustainable menu, mainly containing fish courses, getting their supplies from local fishermen who are particularly respectful of the sea ecosystem.
