Siemens focuses on digitalisation and sustainability

The pre-K conference was held on 24th September at the Milan headquarters of Siemens Italia, an event that saw the participation of operators and trade press both in person and via live streaming. At the centre of the meeting: sustainability and digitalisation as strategic pillars to support Italian manufacturers in optimising and renewing production processes.

"In line with the key themes of the German triennial fair, we focused our event's attention on sustainability and on how digitalisation can help machine manufacturers to be more efficient and bring innovations to market more quickly," stated Emiliano Beati, Business Development Plastic & Textile Industries at Siemens Italia (first on the left in the photo above), in an exclusive interview with MacPlas Online.

Holistic approach for the entire lifecycle
Siemens does not limit itself to energy efficiency alone, but adopts a broader vision. "We speak of a holistic approach across all phases of a project's life, therefore efficiency both in design and engineering and also in plant operations," explained Beati.
The company has developed specific solutions for the plastics sector: "There is a dedicated organisation at Head Office and in the Regions because for Siemens the plastics sector represents an important market and we stand alongside customers operating in this sector also thanks to a dedicated international team that involves our German Headquarters and all Countries".

Focus on Italy and Germany
"Historically Italy and Germany are the two leading countries for plastic machinery manufacturers, therefore, especially here in Lombardy, several companies are present with which we have relationships and for which dedicated solutions have been conceived," emphasised Beati.

During the conference, particular attention was reserved for the collaboration with Amut, which integrates the Siemens Industrial Edge portfolio into its plants.

Artificial intelligence and digital twin at K 2025
For the next edition of K, Siemens will present various technological innovations. "We will discuss artificial intelligence applied to the sector, for example in predictive maintenance for detecting mechanical anomalies in plants," anticipated Beati.

Among the highlighted technologies:
- Robotic integration: "We are not robot manufacturers, however we provide solutions to integrate them easily into machines and our control systems";
- Quality control with AI combined with robotics;
- Digital Twin and simulation: "It can help machine manufacturers to be more efficient and faster in development";
- Data analysis to streamline processes and monitor KPIs, energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

The company's approach aims to show not only technological innovations, but also concrete cases of Italian market OEMs that have implemented significant innovations in recycling and extrusion.

The intervention by Amaplast director Mario Maggiani (on the right in the side photo) completed the conference picture, providing a market overview and illustrating the situation related to tariffs and the effects on exports to the United States.
