Insulation on seabeds -  Bredero Shaw (ShawCor group) was awarded a contract for the production of 40 km of pipe coated with insulating material to be used for the Gumusut- Kakap Deepwater project of Sabah Shell Petroleum. The project is located in the Chinese sea 120 km offshore. Such pipe (diameter 457 mm) is protected with FBE (fusionbonded epoxy) and covered with a special coating made of polyurethane filled with ceramic microspheres for use on the seabed down to 1,200 metres. To complete the pipe coating process, OMS Group has supplied the Impact 300S special foaming machine, which ensures a maximum load of 300 kg/min. It is equipped with a special dual group of dosing pumps to use syntactic formulations containing both polymeric and ceramic microspheres without the risk of damage during the process. To ensure the highest accuracy of the moulding process during the pouring cycle, the machine is endowed with mass flowmeters and closed-loop control of both load and work ratios to monitor and adjust the quality of the polyurethane mixture.
