EPSG celebrates its tenth anniversary
This year EPSG (Ethernet Powerlink Standardization Group) celebrates its tenth anniversary. Established in 2003 with the task of promoting world-wide the Powerlink communication protocol as an independent product, today the EPSG group consists of over 3,100 suppliers of automation systems, among which B&R, ABB, Control Techniques, Yaskawa and Kuka.
Launched in 2000, Powerlink, thanks to its features (in particular its low jitter and high performance levels) is widely used in machines destined for a number of industries such as plastics and rubber. Since the inception of EPSG, this protocol has also included CanOpen, as a result widening its range of applications, and successively it has been distributed as open-source software in order to further facilitate its use.
