Devulcanized rubber

One of the main problem in rubber processing is that this material is difficult to recycle due to the fact that once it is vulcanized, it loses its peculiar characteristics and cannot be reprocessed.
Maris - headquartered in Rosta (Turin, Italy) - has developed a rubber recycling process achieving devulcanization through a co-rotating twin screw extruder which breaks the crosslinks created in the polymer chains during vulcanization. This completely thermo-mechanical process does not require the use of chemicals and allows a secondary raw material to be obtained with characteristics almost identical to those of virgin rubber.
