Bottles for painting

During a ceremony held on June 20, 2011 in Washington, Sherwin-Williams - a US producer of paints and coatings - was awarded by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) with the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award within the category Green Chemical Products. The prize was attributed for the formulation of a paint deriving from recycled PET bottles, thus reducing the environmental impact if compared to traditional oil paints. The new product is made up of recycled PET bottles matched with acrylics and soy oil. It therefore combines the performances of both oil paints and acrylics and a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) content, which usually cause respiratory irritation.
