Pallets for Ikea

The IPPR Institute of Milan reports that traditional wooden pallets will soon be replaced at Ikea sales outlets by injection moulded polypropylene pallets, which can be recycled after use.
Having assessed the impact that the introduction of the new system will have on the entire logistics chain, which includes the Swedish company's suppliers, Ikea is convinced that environmental and economic benefits will derive from this choice thanks to lower costs for production and handling, fuel for freight transport (the new pallets are lighter than their wooden counterparts), and packaging, with the added benefit of enhanced protection of packaged products.
