European project START

The final results of the European project START were presented during the seminar "Smart plastics for a high quality supply chain in agriculture" on 11 May at PLAST 2012.
The START consortium, composed of 11 organizations comprising trade associations, SMEs and, research centres, has developed a retro-fitted dry-cleaning unit for agricultural film waste and related web-based logistics software to reduce transport costs and improve the competitive position of organizations in the recycling supply chain. Field tests demonstrated that the prototype machine is able to reduce soil and stones on agricultural plastic film by 60% to 80% without the use of the water. Italy is represented by CESAP, PROMAPLAST on behalf of ASSORIMAP, the Italian plastics recyclers Association, and SOREMA-PREVIERO.
