Braskem included in the Carbon Efficient Index
The largest resin producer in the Americas and the world's leading biopolymer producer was selected for the third consecutive time as a component of the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2) of the BM&FBovespa - Securities, Commodities and Futures Exchange, with the new portfolio in effect since January 7. The portfolio is formed by 31 stocks of 30 companies.
Launched in 2010, the index is formed by component stocks of the IBrX-50 index that have adopted transparent practices regarding their greenhouse gas emissions. The index's weighting takes into account the level of GHG emissions efficiency as well as the free-float (shares available for trade in the market) of each stock.
Braskem invests regularly in improving processes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013, the company conducted its seventh emissions inventory, which registered a 12% reduction in emissions intensity between 2008 and 2012. Last year, the company was selected as a benchmark in the "Climate Change" dimension of the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the BOVESPA, of which it has been a component for nine years. Also in 2013, Braskem was considered the best Brazilian company in carbon management due to its excellence in performance and transparency, with the company achieving the highest scores in Brazil in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), one of the world's most highly respected sustainability indicators for listed companies.
Internationally, the Company has also been a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Emerging Markets, the sustainability index for emerging markets on the New York Stock Exchange, since 2012 (the year of its launch).
