American tires

The Rubber Manufacturers Association estimates that, by the end of 2010, US tire production is poised to achieve an 8% growth rate over 2009, thanks to increased demand (+38%) for passenger tires. This upsurge should restore production to 2008 levels, or more than 280 million units, versus 260 million in 2009.
This optimistic forecast is supported by first-half production data and reflects an economy recovering from the severe recession coupled with the recent turnaround for domestic auto manufacturers. However, high unemployment, low consumer confidence and a continued slump in home values continue to weigh on the consumer.
