Ten years of Vinyloop

The 10th anniversary of Vinyloop Ferrara, a joint venture between SolVin (one of the largest PVC manufacturers established by Solvay and Basf, who hold 75% and 25% respectively) and the French company Serge Ferrari, a leading manufacturer of PVC composite membranes, will be celebrated on 25th September. Inaugurated in 2002, the operation is now able to process about 10 thousand tons per annum of PVC waste into recycled material which is quite comparable, in terms of consistency and quality, to the virgin polymer.
The Vinyloop plant in Ferrara separates end-of-life PVC from other materials, such as electrical cables, polyester fibres or textiles, metals, rubber, etc. The recycling process is based on the principle of the selective dissolution of PVC, using a solvent which circulates constantly in a closed circuit. The checks carried out during all stages of production guarantees the traceability and the quality of regenerated PVC. The process gives new life to waste material, as a result obtaining feedstock to be used in different applications: garden hoses, geomembranes, insulating coverings for roofs, floors for swimming pools, shoe soles etc.
The event in Ferrara is part of in a broader programme of initiatives to celebrate 100 years of Solvay in Italy.
