Open house for three on PET food packaging

The BG Plast plant in Marnate (near Varese, Italy) was the venue for a joint open house on  March 25-27 with the German company Gneuss and the Swiss company WM Wrapping Machinery. The three companies presented a complete line for the production of PET sheets from post-consumer bottles to be used in the production of thermoform food packaging.
The heart of the line, to be delivered to a Latin American converter, is the Gneuss MRS 110 extruder, which uses 100% recycled PET directly fed into the machine, without a pre-drying or pre-crystallization step, by means of a three-component gravimetric doser unit. Thanks to a water-ring vacuum pump and an automatic RSF genius90 filter (Gneuss), the melt is decontaminated, degassed, and processed intensively with an hourly throughput of up to 500 kg.
Downstream of the extruder, the equipment provided by BG Plast produces a high quality sheet in terms of both appearance and performance. Furthermore, it is FDA-approved for contact with foods. During the three-day open house, the sheet is thermoformed to create appetizer plates in a thermoforming machine provided by WM Wrapping Machinery.
