Forecasts for HDPE
According to a recent study published by Ceresana, world demand for high-density polyethylene should reach a value of 70 billion dollars in 2019. The highest rate of growth, forecast at 4.4% per year, is expected to be seen in the Asia-Pacific region. Significant growth should also be seen in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South America, while Western Europe and North America are considered to be mature markets.
The greatest investments to boost production capacity will be made in the Far East (adding 8 million tons) and Middle East (adding roughly 7 million tons).
HDPE is used principally in blow-moulded containers, which represent 28% of total consumption, followed by extruded film and injection moulding. The greatest growth, however, is forecast for pipe production.
