Rim rolling in the thermoforming machine
The on-board rim rolling system by OMV - first installed on the E74 and E76 thermoforming machines and subsequently on the F87 machine - is now also available on the model F33, a cost-effective midsize thermoforming machine. Thanks to this system that can be used for the majority of cups and round containers, the rimming process can be carried out with a mechanical compression (striking) motion applied along the edge of the piece without affecting the throughput speed. In fact, this operation is performed between the piece demoulding and the stacking stages.
In pratice, before picking up the thermoformed pieces from the stripper plate, the stacking robot - during its upward motion - compresses the piece edge by means of special rings applied to the stripper plate itself. OMV's rimming system can be employed on most materials used in the production of cups and containers (PS, PP, PET, PLA), and above all eliminates the need for a dedicated rimmer downstream the thermoforming machine, as a result simplifying the process as well as the production plant layout. In addition to this, the system is easy to install and allows rimming to be also performed on pieces with irregular edges.
